In 1934 Hemingway bought this 38 foot Playmate for the fishery of Havanan and in Bimini. Built by the Wheeler Shipyard in New York City, she was painted "pirates black".
To be named Pilar, she carried 300 gallons of fuel and 155 gallons of water, and she was capable of carrying an additional 100 gallons each in demijohns. Her name ostensibly was taken from the older woman in "For the Bell Tolls".

*CCT (Correlated Color Temperature) expresses the color or shade of white light. It is the measure of the color appearance of the light emitted from a light source, measured in degrees kelvin (K). The CCT rating is a general 'warmth' or 'coolness' measure of its appearance. Wavelength is used to express a specific color of light other than whites. Wavelength is the portion of the visible spectrum that the human eye can detect, between 380 and 700 nanometers (nm). 3300 K is also called a warm white.
