New England lobster boats -- almost by definition are tradition bound. Changes to the basic design have been slight and significant only if considered over a decade or more, and there's good reason for this. Lobster boats typically are seaworthy, maneuverable, relatively fast and have plenty of space for both working and carrying gear. The traditional design is so versatile that lobster boat hulls fined out as pleasure boats are a common sight in New England waters.
