The Santa Cruz 37 was not designed to be admired from the dock. She was designed to make every other boat on the racecourse feel like it was standing still. Bill Lee’s radical ultralight creation rewrote the rules of West Coast offshore racing with a hull form so uncompromising, so single-mindedly devoted to pure speed, that the sailing world needed several seasons to fully understand what it was looking at. At 1:24 scale, 18.5 inches plus bowsprit, this custom half hull finally gives the Santa Cruz 37 the unhurried, close-quarters admiration she has always deserved.
