Westsail's history goes back as far as the late 1800's when a Scottish naval architet was commissioned to design a boat to take pilots out to incoming ships. It had to be capable of handling the steep North Sea for possibly days. A standard was established by developing an effective 'double-ender'.  Many years later this design was refined and a new race boat was developed for the open sea.
